Under the cloak of the approaching darkness, he returned home and quietly slipped into his bed, which was right next to Adi’s (Adi Hillimaier) bed. Falling asleep and sleeping through the night had become a problem for Peter. At night, he had to go to the toilet but was too scared to get out of bed until he eventually fell asleep. When he was woken up by "Mama" (true name was Magarethe Leitner) at 6 a.m. the next day, he discovered that his bed was wet. The white sheet had a large, round, ugly yellow stain. It was indescribably embarrassing. He didn't dare talk to anyone about it. Peter feared that if "Mama" saw it, she might lock him in the cellar. Peter absolutely had to do something to get rid of the stain. Instead of getting up immediately after Mama's morning call, as usual, Peter stayed lying in bed, hoping that his body heat would soak up the wetness and make the yellow stain disappear.
After some time, he had to leave the bed after all and believed that the yellow stain had gotten lighter. He tucked the wet sheet in especially neatly and folded the duvet more tidily than ever before. As usual, he ate his buttered bread that "Mama" had prepared in the morning and then went to school together with Adi (Adi Hillimaier) and Daniel (Daniel Spitzl).
In the math lesson, the teacher Anna Karl drew green, red, and brown squares, triangles, and circles on the blackboard and subsequently circled some of these figures. The students then had to solve the task. However, Peter understood nothing at all and had no idea how he could manage set theory. Confused, he returned home and was "greeted" by "Mama" with several slaps. Instead of being able to go to the forest, he received a special punishment. He had to write the sentence, "I am stupid and don't know why," several hundred times in penmanship. Peter spent the entire afternoon at the table this way until "Mama" returned from the city of Salzburg in the evening. "Mama," who had calmed down by now, accepted his writing work and prepared dinner for everyone. Peter knew that he had not done his homework again, and it tormented him that he had no understanding of mathematics.
