Opening

November 23, 1966, 2:45 AM – LKA Salzburg, Müllner Hauptstraße 48 A child is born. Mother: Herta Brigitte Krug (later Bertel, *December 21, 1943 – †April 12, 2024). Father: Dr. Peter Strobl, doctor from Kitzbühel – advised abortion, never paid support, never seen. Grandparents: unknown.


First two years: Infant home near the hospital. Then: Children’s home Kirchenstraße 33, Itzling – until age 6.


Strict routine, no privacy.

Locked in the basement for breaking rules.

Threats: “The devil will get you.”

Christmas 1969: alone in the dormitory, crying for hours.

Middlegame

Projuventute Children's Village, Beatings with a belt, broom , Homelessness, Mönchsberg, WABE Salzburg


1973–1978: Pro-Juventute children’s home Guggenthal 62 (now Georg-Weickl-Weg 21), Koppl. Caretaker Margarethe Leitner (1930–2018) hits with chair, broom, belt. Sunday mass 8:30 AM, mandatory. School: Guggenthal elementary – four grades in one room. Red-green color blindness → poor grades → punishment. Hyperventilation – misdiagnosed as epilepsy. Escape with friend Adi Hillimaier into the forest – sticks as weapons, building huts, catching trout.

1978–1980: Children’s home Aignerstraße 7a, Parsch – bullying, theft of orange juice, sweets, expulsion. Foster home Zanderstraße 5, Liefering – Gerold Ladinig (1952–2003) hits with fists. Stranger with tattoos abuses for weeks. Escape: 20 km through storm to Gaisberg (1288 m), wet, cold, alone.

1983–1987: Three years homeless. Mönchsberg, Untersberg caves (Kolowratshöhle), horse cart in Obergnigl. WABE Guggenmoosstraße 3 – three weeks, cleaning stairs, mattress on the floor. Youth hostel Josef-Preis-Allee – one week. No begging. Winter 1986/87: Teenager, nights on the street, wandering freezing nights, on the verge of freezing to death. 2.5 months detention Schanzelgasse 1 – self-harm, blood, black coffee, hard bread crusts.

Endgame

Lucia Nadia Cipriani, Yoga, FIDE Master Title


March 1987: Nußdorferstraße 17, Riedenburg – first meeting in chaotic shared flat. Lucia (*February 27, 1955, Rome), waitress, artist, oriental dancer. She listens. She stays. Queen Sacrifice (Shame): Everything is told. She enables survival – soup, blanket, hope.

May 1987: Linzergasse 50 (Salzburg) – first shared apartment. Bathroom in the hallway, toilet in the corridor, meditation in the garden shed.

1987–2004: Essergasse 8 (Kleingmain), Brückenstraße 55 (Siezenheim), Plainstraße 27 (Salzburg). Lucia carries the rent, the soup cubes, the hope.

Since 1994: Yoga – daily practice. 2000: 4-week training Yoga Vidya Westerwald. 16 years running yoga school in Salzburg, Freilassing.

2017: FIDE Master in Chess Composition – mostly 650 studies composed at night.

Result

White wins. Not by strength. Not by luck. Only through Lucia. Only through Yoga. Only through writing what cannot be said.
